ABOUT READING HOSPITAL & TOWER HEALTH

Are naming opportunities available?

Yes. Naming opportunities are available for significant gifts, including entire project namings (ICU, Emergency Department, NICU, Endowed Chair – Department of Surgery), individual patient rooms, community health programs, endowed scholarship funds, and more. Gift levels range from $25,000 for endowed scholarships to $10 million for transformational project naming. Details are available upon request.

Can I make a pledge over multiple years?

Absolutely. Pledges can be fulfilled over a period of up to five years, making larger gifts more manageable. We work with donors to create pledge schedules that fit their financial planning needs.

What types of gifts does the Foundation accept?

We accept cash, checks, credit cards, stocks and securities, IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (for donors 70½ and older), donor-advised fund grants, planned gifts (bequests, charitable gift annuities, trusts), and matching gifts from employers. Our team can work with you to structure a gift that maximizes both impact and tax benefits.

What is the relationship between Reading Hospital and Tower Health?

Located in West Reading, Reading Hospital is the flagship, Magnet Recognized acute-care hospital of Tower Health System. Our 697-bed hospital is home to many top-tier advanced specialty care centers. The former Reading Health System became part of the newly established Tower Health System in 2017.

What about Tower Health's financial situation and recent changes?

Tower Health is now in good financial standing and, like leading health systems nationwide, is taking proactive steps to ensure long-term sustainability. Recent organizational changes—including a reduction in workforce across the entire Tower Health system—reflect the industry realities. Rather than waiting for financial pressures to mount, Tower Health is making thoughtful, strategic decisions now to streamline operations, accelerate decision-making, and position the organization to continue investing in provider growth, technology, innovation, and exceptional patient care. These steps are about building a stronger, more resilient health system that can thrive in a rapidly changing environment while remaining true to our mission of serving our communities with excellence.

Why should I support Reading Hospital specifically?

Reading Hospital has been the cornerstone of healthcare in Berks County for over 150 years. We are the region's only Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence, and comprehensive stroke center. We keep care local—providing services that would otherwise require patients to travel to Philadelphia. We deliver over 3,000 babies annually, treat the most complex cardiac and cancer cases, and provide $100+ million in charity care and community benefit programs each year. When you support Reading Hospital Foundation, you're investing in your community, your neighbors, and the hospital you and your family rely on. Every dollar stays in Berks County, delivering world-class care close to home.

What is Reading Hospital Foundation?

Reading Hospital Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to raising philanthropic support for Reading Hospital. We exist to bridge the gap between what insurance and government reimbursements cover and what it takes to provide truly exceptional care. Every gift we receive helps fund medical innovations, patient care enhancements, community health programs, and facility improvements that would not otherwise be possible.

Is Reading Hospital Foundation part of Tower Health?

No. While Reading Hospital is part of the Tower Health system, Reading Hospital Foundation is a separate 501(c) (3) nonprofit entity with its own board of directors. The Foundation raises funds exclusively for Reading Hospital—not for other Tower Health facilities like Pottstown Hospital, Phoenixville Hospital, St. Christopher's Hospital, or Drexel University College of Medicine. Every dollar donated to Reading Hospital Foundation stays right here in Berks County, supporting the hospital and community programs that serve our neighbors.

How does Reading Hospital Foundation use donations?

Your gifts support areas of greatest impact: capital improvements like our ICU and NICU expansions, advanced medical technology and equipment, innovative community health programs, workforce development and education for our medical professionals, and patient care programs. Donors can designate gifts to specific areas that matter most to them, or contribute to our Area of Greatest Need fund, which provides flexibility to address the most pressing priorities as they arise.
